Goin down the only road I’ve ever known. Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone. And I’ve made up my mind, I ain’t wasting no more time.
Sorry for that.
I’m a couple days late, but I’ve been pretty busy. Between working and training, I’ve got very little time for other things. I’ll try and be a little more prompt but no promises.
This last week has been a bit manic. We (my wife and I) have been working on getting the word out, coming up with ideas for fundraising, etc. I want to do a pub quiz one night, in the local. We’re going through all our old clothes and other stuff and gathering it all for a jumble sale. Help For Heroes has sent me a lot of fundraising materials and are going to send more. When I spoke with the lady at H4H, she thought I was a bit mad for taking this on, but she was really impressed and is going to get the PR team behind me to help. It’s starting to come together but the amount of stuff to do other than training is a bit daunting. Well, no one said this was gonna be easy.
I decided I need to lose about 15 lbs. That would get me down to about 155 lbs. which will be a lot easier to carry over 12 miles. I’m focused on losing that weight but doing it properly. I’m not starving myself or anything like that. A well balanced diet and exercise is the best way. Lots of vegetables, a portion of meat and a small portion of complex carbs. I’m eating fruit and nuts between meals. Oh, and I discovered tinned mackerel in spicy tomato sauce… OMG! A shot of protein and omega 3 all smothered in a lovely tomato sauce. Yummers.
Luckily, where I live there is a lot of trails. No better way to train for a Tough Mudder event (or 16) than running through the woods. Now that the weather has turned and the rain is here…. So is the mud. I love running through the wilderness. So much better than the streets with the cars and pollution and people. Nothing but you and nature and heavy metal music in my ears. I sometimes pretend I’m running from zombies. Makes it a little more interesting if you think you’re running for your life. There’s an iPhone app that is literally just that. They give you missions, like resupply or rescue missions, but you have to run from the zombies in the process. Everything happens through your headphones.
Anyways, I digress. I’m running. Mostly trails and only a few miles so far. 6 months ago, in preparation for the April Mudder event that I did, I was running 7-11 miles. After Tough Mudder I fell out of my routine and stopped running. Now it’s almost like I’ve started back at zero. I was only able to run 3 miles. Well, today I pushed myself and ran 6 miles. Not as hard as I thought, but it wasn’t easy either. I needed to just go for it and get the first one out of the way. Now that I’ve done it, the next ones will be easier.
Ok, I’m gonna cut myself off for this week. It’s dinner time.
Love, peace and chicken grease
